Safety & Compliance — Our Certifications and Regulatory Standing

Our Uncompromising Commitment to Safety & Compliance

In the world of marine travel, safety is the ultimate luxury. At Bajo Harbor, it is the bedrock of our operations and the most critical component of our promise to you. We operate with full legal and regulatory compliance within the Republic of Indonesia, and we hold our vessel partners to a standard that often exceeds local requirements. Our meticulous approach, detailed in our evaluation methodology, ensures that every aspect of your journey is managed with an unwavering focus on your well-being and peace of mind. We are not just a booking platform; we are your trusted guardians on the water.

Corporate & Legal Integrity

Our operational integrity begins with our corporate structure. We believe in transparency and full compliance with Indonesian law.

  • Legal Entity: Bajo Harbor is a fully registered Indonesian limited liability company, or Perseroan Terbatas (PT), operating under the auspices of our parent company, Juara Holding Group.
  • Business & Tourism Licenses: We hold a valid Surat Izin Usaha Perdagangan (SIUP – General Trading Business License) and a Tanda Daftar Usaha Pariwisata (TDUP – Tourism Business Registration), issued by the relevant government authorities.
  • Tax Compliance: We are a registered Indonesian taxpayer with a Nomor Pokok Wajib Pajak (NPWP), fulfilling all our fiscal responsibilities.
  • ASITA Membership: As active members of the Association of the Indonesian Tours and Travel Agencies (ASITA), we adhere to a professional code of ethics and stay current with industry best practices.

Maritime Safety & Vessel Compliance

We enforce a strict, multi-layered safety and compliance protocol for every vessel in our collection. A vessel will not be listed on our site without meeting these non-negotiable standards.

  • Mandatory Vessel Documentation: We physically verify that each vessel possesses a valid and current:
    • Gross Akte & Surat Ukur: The official certificate of registry and tonnage.
    • Surat Kelaiklautan Kapal: A certificate of seaworthiness issued by the Ministry of Transportation.
    • Passenger Vessel Insurance: Comprehensive liability insurance that covers all passengers and crew.
  • Port Clearance (SPB): For every single voyage, without exception, the vessel’s captain must obtain a Surat Persetujuan Berlayar (SPB), or Port Clearance Permit, from the Harbormaster (Syahbandar) at the KSOP Kelas III Labuan Bajo. This permit confirms the vessel is seaworthy, the crew is complete, and the weather is safe for departure. We will never charter a vessel that attempts to bypass this critical safety check.
  • SOLAS-Standard Equipment: We audit all vessels to ensure they are equipped with safety gear that meets or exceeds Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) standards. This includes professionally serviced life rafts, an Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB), sufficient life jackets, fire suppression systems, and modern navigation and communication equipment (VHF Radio, GPS, Radar).
  • Crew Certification & Training: The safety of a vessel is determined by its crew. We verify that all crew members have completed Basic Safety Training (BST). Captains and engineers must hold the appropriate maritime licenses (e.g., Ahli Nautika Tingkat/ANT, Ahli Teknika Tingkat/ATT) for the vessel’s size and tonnage. All dive guides must be active, insured PADI or SSI professionals.

Emergency Preparedness & Protocols

While we work tirelessly to prevent emergencies, we are equally prepared to manage them effectively should they arise.

  • 24/7 Shore Support: Our operations office in Labuan Bajo is on standby 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to provide immediate shore-based support to our vessels.
  • Medical Emergency Plan: We have established emergency protocols with the Siloam Hospitals Labuan Bajo, the best-equipped medical facility in the area. We also have relationships with medical evacuation services for swift transport to Bali or beyond in critical situations. All vessels are equipped with extensive first aid kits and emergency oxygen.
  • Search and Rescue (SAR) Coordination: We maintain a direct line of communication with the local BASARNAS (National Search and Rescue Agency) office to ensure rapid coordination in a maritime emergency.
  • GPS Tracking: A growing number of our premier fleet vessels are equipped with real-time GPS tracking, allowing our operations team to monitor their position throughout their voyage.

Your safety is our highest priority. This comprehensive framework of legal, maritime, and emergency compliance is our commitment to ensuring your Komodo journey is as safe as it is spectacular.
